Join us for an exclusive interview with Kat, the creator of Kat & Cacao, a brand specializing in eco-friendly kimonos made in Bali. 1. Would you share a bit about yourself and your origins?

Hi, my name is Kat and I was born in Germany.

2. How did all it start?

I happened to be in Bali when the pandemic started, so I spent “lockdown in paradise”. I spent my days mostly wearing kimonos, and at some point I decided to create my own!

3. Was it always the intention to become a sustainable and ethical designer?

Yes, from the beginning it was very important for me to source locally, to use natural material, to know the people I work with in person and to cultivate a humane, heart-centered relationship with them.

SECTION 2: ABOUT YOUR BRAND

1. Could you tell us more about your label?

I created a label called “Kat & Cacao”, which specializes in ecological kimonos made in Bali. For each kimono, there comes a free chocolate from Bali as a present!

2. What is the ethos when you design? And, what defines your style?

We thrive to create clothing that elevates your frequency. We use only high-vibe organic fibres, the most beautiful natural colours and super comfortable, yet gracious designs.

Here at Kat & Cacao, we love minimal, slow fashion that calms the mind, relaxes the nerves and uplifts the spirit!

3. What have been some of the biggest challenges for you on this journey?

The journey so far has been rather smooth, from the beginning it felt so aligned to create the kimonos! Maybe staying true to my creative voice and not let other people influence me too much was the biggest challenge so far.

4. What do you want to achieve personally with your brand?

I truly believe that clothes have a direct impact on our well-being and energy body. The kimonos have been blessed ceremonially by a healer in Bali and they carry that frequency of health, gentle protection and “having your back”. It is deeply touching and purposeful to imagine the kimonos being worn by more and more people in the world!
